BACK TO 2007: CAN IT RUN CRYSIS?

I remember the first time I properly coughed up money that I saved entirely on PC upgrades was back in 2007. That decision was made after I saw videos of Crysis in action, it was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I remember being impressed with CryEngine’s debut with Far Cry but I was literally gobsmacked when I first saw Crysis in video.

In terms of physics, character models, lighting, texture quality and gameplay concept, the game was one of the pioneers in bringing the FPS genre forward after Half Life 2 did back in 2004. Not only the technology behind the engine, but also the requirements back then were crazy for it’s time. It was essentially a PC game, built for a PC and not watered down for consoles. I’m sure geeks or tech enthusiasts are familiar to the phrase “Can it run Crysis?”, and it was probably the first game to define and pose a question on PC’s being built. Nevertheless, fast forward to the present and as usual, we have the modding the community that keeps great games alive and I had the opportunity and time to sit down and go through some texture upgrades and other visual enhancement mods. Although my hardware now is a lot more beefier than it was back then, Crysis still can make things difficult for my current rig, especially with modded HD textures.
